Car Insurance Groups List

There is no doubt that where your car is situated in the car insurance groups list will be a major determining factor with regard to how much you will be paying and that is why the list is so important. Obviously if you do not want to end up paying too high an insurance premium then you will want to be certain that the model you are thinking of purchasing belongs to one of the lower of the 1-50 groups.

These groups may not tell you exactly what you will end up paying but they will give you a very good idea. They cannot be completely accurate because there are many factors which have to be taken into consideration by the insurance company - the age of the driver and past driving records for example.

For example, a mature driver with a fairly clean driving record no recent speeding fines will have very little to worry about but, on the other hand, a younger driver who has had a recent conviction on driving-related issues will be hit hard. Indeed, they will probably have difficulties securing insurance if the car they choose is high up the list.

It is also important t note that some insurance companies will not insure cars that are in the highest groups on the list no matter how good the driver’s record is, and some will have limits on how much they can insure and will rarely cover the value of the car should something go seriously wrong.

Be careful also that you name the particular model when checking the list. Say you wanted to buy a Ford, for instance. The Ka is usually in group one, or sometimes two, so your insurance premiums will be low, but if it is the GT you are after, then that will cost a small fortune to insure.

Lexus is a popular prestige car and will therefore cost you a pretty penny to insure, but another car in the Toyota range - the Aygo - falls into group one and is one of the cheapest. So be warned.

And unless you are very rich then forget about that Porsche 911.

The best advice is to take a little time and ask for quotations from various insurance companies before you make your final decision on cover. This holds true whatever your circumstances and no matter where you fall in the car insurance groups list.
