California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program



Car insurance is a requirement if you have a DRIVER'S LICENSE and driving a vehicle in the State of California. California insurance program Low Cost Auto (CLCA) is a State-sponsored program that makes car insurance more affordable for the eligibility requirements.

To qualify, you must 1) have a valid DRIVER'S LICENSE in California; 2) have the vehicle worth $25,000 or less; 3) meet the eligibility guidelines of income; and 4) at least age 19 or older.



Maximum income requirements are based on the size of your household. In 2016, the maximum amount was $29,700 for household size 1, increased by $10,350 for each additional household member (for example, a household with 4 maximum income is $60,750.

Annual premiums vary according to region, ranging from $241 to $556 (in 2016). If you live in Ventura County, has been licensed continuously for 3 years and not men aged 19-24 years, your premium is $253 ($319 if you are a man aged 19-24 years).

While the premiums is nice, its scope is very limited. The basic policy only covers up to $10,000 per person and up to $20,000 per accident due to physical injury or death and up to $3,000 for property damage. Comprehensive and collision are not included in this policy (must be purchased separately).
