Best Way To File Car Insurance Claims

Nobody likes filing car insurance claims after an accident, but almost every driver has to do it sooner or later. Fortunately filing a claim is a matter of basic paperwork, but the best way to file car insurance claims makes the process easier.

The Internet has also helped to simplify the process with most insurance companies because you can file online and some car insurance companies have Apps that make the process even easier.

Best Way to File Claims
Read your policy’s instructions for filing a claim before filling out any paperwork. Make sure you know what the deductible is and if the damage will be covered by it. If the damage won’t be covered filing a claim is a waste of time.

If you’ve determined it’s worthwhile to file a claim do so as soon as possible. Use your insurer’s electronic claims system because it will usually be faster and more efficient. You can scan in any paper documents and submit them.

Make sure that you include a copy of the police report if you are able to obtain one. If you cannot get the police report make sure you get the name of the officer and the law enforcement agency he or she works for. Get the names and contact information for any witnesses and anybody else who is involved in the accident.

Make sure you attach copies of any bills or invoices associated with the claim. This includes bills for rental cars, repairs, medical bills and even doctors bills if they are available at the time the claim is filed.

Provide a statement in the manner prescribed by the insurance company. Ask an attorney or an insurance agent for help if you don’t understand the claim. Make sure that you keep a paper or electronic copy of all paperwork submitted. Don’t file the claim immediately after the accident because you might be upset or agitated. Wait until you’re calm and rational when you file.

Get the name of the other drivers’ insurance company and if possible his or her policy number. File a claim with your insurance company even if you think the other driver is responsible. Filing a claim will authorize your insurance company to work with the other driver’s company to resolve the matter.

Another reason you should file a claim is that if the other driver is uninsured your uninsured motorists’ insurance coverage cannot pay you if you do not file a claim. Make sure that you monitor the claims process to see if it’s going right. If anything goes wrong you’ll want to know about it ASAP in order to fix the problem and get the money you need.
